QV&A: ARCHIE BROTHERS & HIJINX HOTEL

If you’ve ever looked up at Archie Brothers & Hijinx Hotel on a Friday or Saturday night and wondered what all the excitement was about, this is your sign to step inside. We sat down with Belle and Jesse, who work at both venues, to hear what makes the experience worth your time. Jesse’s verdict on the weekend atmosphere? "Electric and energetic" and once you've experienced Hijinx Hotel for yourself, you'll understand why.

For someone who has never been, how would you describe the Hijinx Hotel experience?

One of the biggest surprises for first timers is Hijinx Hotel. Plenty of guests walk in expecting a standard escape room, but according to Belle, "it's so much more than that." Think immersive, fast-paced rooms designed to get a group of people thinking, moving and laughing together.

How does the experience change depending on who you bring along?

Part of the appeal to going to Hijinx Hotel is how different the experience is depending on who you bring along. Couples on a date night tend to keep things relaxed preferring to move at their own pace through the rooms. Groups of friends, on the other hand, as Jesse puts it ‘enjoy the friendly competition and tend to race each other through the rooms and compare scores afterwards.’

The team says that work functions are a favourite too, the bigger groups bring the same energy as a night out with mates, with plenty of banter and that same friendly rivalry between colleagues, making it a popular choice for teams looking to bond outside the office.

Why do you think Archie Brothers and Hijinx Hotel work as the perfect destinations for people in the CBD?

For anyone working in or around the CBD, Archie Brothers & Hijinx Hotel makes a strong case as your new after work spot. According to Belle, it is the perfect choice because not only “do you get to relax and take away all that work stress, but you can do it all while enjoying a drink”.

What do you recommend people eat and drink when they visit?

When it comes to food and drinks, the team didn't hold back on their favourites. The Circus Sour cocktail is highly recommended for its sweet flavour, with Belle describing it as ‘a trip to the disco’. For food, Belle enjoys the cauliflower and chicken bites because they are "really well done." But, if you're after something a little tropical, the Tiki My Fortune cocktail is a favourite of Jesse’s who says it's definitely worth trying alongside the pizzas. Most guests save their food and drinks for after the activities. After all that running around Hijinx Hotel, a cocktail hits differently once you're done.

QV is currently running a Play and Dine promotion. For someone coming in to take advantage of it, what would you recommend?

Until July 12, QV is running a promotion rewarding guests who spend $50 on entertainment with a $20 Dine and Play gift card. Jesse has a simple tip for making the most of it at Archie Brothers & Hijinx Hotel: book online ahead of your visit to unlock the best value.
